Prime Minister Stops Curfew in Aruba

The Prime Minister of Aruba eliminated the curfew measure. 

She also flexibilized a few other measures against corona.

Gebiedsverbod (area prohibition) was also eliminated, this is effective at parking lots, reefs, and beaches.

Closing times for retail stores, supermarkets, and restaurants are 11.00 pm. 

Casino’s are allowed to open until 1.00 am.

Consuming alcoholic beverages in public is not allowed.

All the new measures went into effect as of May 25, 2021. 

The measures are being flexibilized, because of the recent reduction in new positive cases, and increase in the amount of locals who are vaccinating. 

Aruba’s positivity rate is also decreasing below double digit numbers, currently at 3%, as of May 29, 2021.



New Records Set at Second Vaccination Marathon Event

Almost 2.000 locals went to get their first vaccination against corona during the island’s second vaccination marathon.

According to the Health Minister, 1.752 locals vaccinated for the first time, and 6.513 locals took the second jab after taking the initial dose in April.

The number of people that attended the second vaccination event (8.265 locals) was larger than the crowd at the first edition (7.101).

The second vaccination marathon was held on May 22 – 23, 2021. 

Vaccinations took place at four different strategic locations around the island, to reach all neighborhoods. 

The main focus of the vacunathon event is to reach herd immunity, which is set at 85% vaccination of Aruba’s population.

According to the public health department, 62% of the island is vaccinated. 

Aruba is close to reaching herd immunity.

US Travelers rank Aruba as one of the top 10 popular travel destinations when fully vaccinated – according to a recently released article on the web named “top 10 vacation destinations” by kayak.com

Aruba ranks in spot number 7, number 1 is Cancun Mexico, and last in the list is Cairo, Egypt #10.

What makes Aruba a top destination in the Caribbean for travelers, whether vaccinated or not?

It’s the fact that, Aruba has one of the highest population vaccination percentages in the Caribbean, and currently there’s a low infection rate of 3%, which makes it one of the best destinations to visit during these times. 

Aruba is increasing the daily local vaccination rate in order to reach herd immunity. 

85% of the community has to be vaccinated in order to reach collective immunity.

Reaching collective immunity means that the island can speed up the recuperation process in regards to the economy, tourism, and public health of the community.

According to the CEO of Aruba Tourism Authority, the idea of a vaccination passport can be approved by Aruba, as soon as herd immunity is achieved on the island.



4.000+ Visitors in One Day

Aruba’s tourism is recuperating faster than expected, over 4.000+ visitors stepped foot on the island on May 22, 2021.

Tourism officials are expecting that June will be another record breaking month for stay over visitors on the island. 

According to the local tourism board statistics, a large part of Aruba’s visitors are travelers who already are fully vaccinated.

Cruise Tourism Kicks Off With Celebrity Cruise Lines

Celebrity Cruise Line will be the first ship to dock at Aruba’s ports, after cruise tourism came to a halt last year. 

The cruise itinerary has 2 departure dates, either June 5 or 19, 2021.

Cruising on the great seas for 7 nights, visiting 4 ports while traveling a total of 3 sea days. 

The cruise ship will depart from Philipsburg, St.Maarten, and head towards Aruba, Curacao and Barbados.

Weekly port calls will be made as of June, at least once a week by cruise lines. 

All cruise ships have to operate under strict rules set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Including but not limited to, ships need to be at 50% capacity. This means 1500 – 3000 passengers in each cruise ship. And all crew members including cruise goers must be fully vaccinated. 

According to the Tourism Minister, the cruise tourism industry will gradually grow back to normal levels before the pandemic began. 

Local tourism experts project that Aruba will reach 50% of cruise tourism by 2019 before the end of the year 2021.

Which is between 200.000 – 400.000 cruise travelers this year, compared to 900.000 cruise visitors in 2019.



New Road Towards Baby Beach

Tourism minister completes the first of many projects at Baby Beach – a new road towards one of the most popular beaches in San Nicolas. 

The new road starts from the ex-Aruba Esso Club towards Baby Beach, and was completed this week.

It’s a road used by locals and visitors who want to enjoy the moon shaped bay on the Southern part of the island.

Baby beach in San Nicolas is currently in the midst of a beautification project, which started in 2019.

The beautification project includes additional palapas on the beach for shade, large parking lot, restrooms, new restaurants and bars, new courts for beach sports, and facilities to exercise.

There’s no final date yet as to when the final project will be completed. 



The First Storm For Hurricane Season 2021

The first storm for the Atlantic hurricane season has already formed. 

Named Ana, this storm formed 200 miles northeast of Bermuda and obtained speeds of 45mph.

It’s an almost stationary subtropical storm, forecased to slowly move towards the North Atlantic, dissipating gradually.

According to experts, despite Ana not being a threat, it’s still a sign for the upcoming hurricane season, which is expected to be more active than normal. 

Hurricane Season officially starts June 1 and it ends November 31, 2021.

Aruba has proven to be one of the safest islands in the Caribbean during the hurricane season, because the island is located outside of the hurricane’s path.
